Phase 1FLIP research committee 1997-2001

Major outcomes of the FLIP research committee phase 1 (June 1997 through May 2001) are as follows:

Upgrading of FLIP program

phriFLIP(Ver.3.3) was upgraded as follows:

FLIPSIM: pre-processor for determining soil model parameters
FLIPGEN: pre-processor for mesh generation and run
Selective Reduced Integration Method (SRI)
Nonlinear beam element
Stage-by-stage analysis
Viscous element at lateral boundaries (improvement)
Element-wise input of thickness of 2D element
Automatic determination of stabilization parameters AA, BB for assigning fictitious confining stress for soil at or near non-confining stress state
Rayleigh damping matrix (improvement)
Combination of c & phi input for specifying shear strength of soil
Temp method: adjustment for plastic shear work increment for the stress path beyond the phase transformation line
Other improvements


Advanced applications

The committee hosted the following working groups for advanced applications and state-of-the-practice.

Parameter study on one dimensional analysis of Kushiro-port site
Parameter study on damage to RF3 quay wall at Rokko-Island, Kobe
Modeling of treated soils by sand compaction piles
Modeling of sheet pile quay walls
Modeling of rubble stones
Modeling of embankments (No.2)
Modification of constitutive equation

Results of the research work through these working groups were summarized as the research reports to the members of the FLIP research committee. Some of the results were made available to the wider area of engineers and researchers as follows:
